Learning the Language, Earning the Win: Kent Facilities Crew Completes On-Site ESL Training

This story started in annual reviews, when several Kent Facilities team members asked to learn more English to communicate more confidently on the job and build long-term success. Our Division Managers listened. They worked with HR, found a solution, and got it done.

We partnered with the West Michigan Literacy Center to bring a 12-week English as a Second Language (ESL) course to the team. “When our people ask for an opportunity like this, it’s on us to make it easy to say yes,” shares Division Manager Jeff Moomey. “Bringing the training on-site was one way we could support them without adding more to their plates.”

Jose Millian, Alex Millian, Alex Tello Monico, and Luis Moran Gualim committed to the program. They added 2.5 hours to their workdays two to three times a week and showed up ready to learn. This Spring, they earned their certificates and proved that growth takes effort, and pays off. “I’m incredibly proud of these guys and proud they’re building their future right here at Kent,” adds Moomey.

When our people ask to grow, we make it happen. At Kent, investing in yourself is always encouraged. And when one person levels up, the whole team gets stronger.

Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it. Congratulations, Jose, Alex, Alex, and Luis.
